ABOUT VENTURE UP

Company Story & History

1983

Trapped in a snowed-in chalet in Chamonix, France in 1983, two American climbers sat by a dying fire wondering how to keep la belle vie going. After three days of storm and darkness, the decision was clear: start an adventure company and build a life around traveling the world.

Back in the U.S., two recent University of Arizona graduates launched Venture Up. Co-founder and plant biochemist David Lengyel has since traveled to 50+ countries as a mountaineer, guide, and consultant. He built Venture Up by leading first-time alpinists to world-famous summits and organizing climbing, caving, and ropes courses across the U.S. The company quickly grew into a team of highly skilled guides and became known for promoting responsible travel and cultural awareness at international conferences in Europe, Asia, and Russia.

As word spread, business leaders began hiring Venture Up to design fun, meaningful experiences that build trust and engagement on their teams. What began as adventure travel evolved into what we do today: corporate training and events.

The path wasn’t straight. With a motto of “Yes we do,” Venture Up created custom programs for a wide range of industries. David and his team have consulted on films and commercials, rigged ropes courses for fashion shoots, delivered discreet training programs for military and government groups, and run private events for celebrity families and pro athletes. From transforming hotel ballrooms into full-scale adventure courses and showroom floors into fast-paced Strategic Games to building portable climbing walls for trade shows and promotions, we stay open to both traditional and unconventional requests. Today, nearly all of our work is with corporate groups, many of whom have partnered with us for decades.

As a company built on repeat business, we thrive by listening. “Our clients are our business consultants. They are the driving force behind our innovation,” says David. “They always want something different and something new, and we continue to deliver.”

Venture Up promotes diversity, inclusivity, and social responsibility, and helps organizations build strong team relationships and loyalty to their brand.

If you want a strong corporate culture and a happy workplace, we’d love to help you build it.

Philosophy

Venture Up has served more than 500,000 clients since we began in 1983. As corporate training technologies shifted toward integrated learning models, Venture Up was at the forefront as a pioneer in corporate experiential learning.

The Venture Up experience integrates cognitive, emotional, and physical awareness. Our philosophy is rooted in the power of the individual to create high-performance teams and, in turn, successful organizations.

At Venture Up, we address both large- and small-scale issues affecting organizations of all types and sizes. Our programs motivate people to perform at their best as team players and increase their awareness of their ability to effect change.

Our programs are flexible enough to integrate with existing corporate training, or be designed to target specific client objectives. Typical program exercises establish trust and create a positive learning environment that enables people at all professional levels to become more creative and innovative in their thinking and problem solving. We aim to remove barriers that keep them from trying something new and inspire them to view problems from many perspectives.

Programs are designed to be fun and challenging, yet geared for success. Our goal is to build relationships through positive feedback, recognition, and reward. The result: team members leave with an action plan and a renewed willingness to try new ideas and look for new solutions back on the job.

Quality Service

Venture Up’s focus on quality is enduring. In an age of global competition, quality and service remain top priorities for successful organizations.

We view quality as doing things right the first time, with the ultimate purpose of creating and keeping customers. We adhere to principles, highlighted in the Harvard Business Review, that caution against the false goals of many activity-driven quality programs. We believe strongly in the need for measurable, long-term results on the job. Anything short of exceeding customers’ expectations and positively impacting organizational performance is activity for its own sake, not part of the quality process.

The success of any organization depends on the individual commitment of each employee to a common goal. Research has overwhelmingly demonstrated the need for individuals to feel a sense of ownership and pride in their work.

We work with organizations to help them maximize individual and organizational performance. By accomplishing common goals and combining individual talents, teams are forged and true quality is achieved.

Vision

Our vision is a workplace where individuals are committed to a common goal and contribute their talents with self-motivated initiative, ownership, and organizational pride.

Mission

Our mission is to provide realistic, job-related learning experiences that empower individuals to contribute to common goals through effective individual and team behaviors, and to work with organizations and individuals to ensure long-term change and application on the job.

Results

Our success is measured by our clients’ results and reflected in the quality of our staff. We practice what we believe.
